About

A tavern has stood on this site since the 1780s, though the present jewel-box Victorian interior — stained glass, wrought-iron chandeliers, polished granite, dark mahogany — was designed by architect J.M. Butler and opened in 1895, even frequented by a young James Joyce. Hidden down a narrow laneway off Dame Street, it hosts traditional music in the downstairs Stag's Tail, comedy upstairs, and a Ukulele Tuesday session that has run for years.
